PSPD Welcomes the Supreme Court’s decision,

“Disclose the National Assembly Special Activity Expenses Data”

The National Assembly Budget Should be Transparent

Today, May 3, 2018, the Supreme Court dismissed the National Assembly Secretariat’s appeal and ruled, as claimed by PSPD, that the details of the National Assembly’s special activity expenses should be disclosed. PSPD Center for Legislative Watch welcomes this decision for it guarantees the people’s right to know and increases transparency of the National Assembly budget execution. The National Assembly should take this as an opportunity to make immediate steps to abolish unnecessary special activity expenses in the National Assembly and to improve related systems.

This decision came three years after PSPD filed the lawsuit on June 23, 2015, against the National Assembly Secretariat. Despite the people’s distrust, the Secretariat has tried to justify its ambiguous operation of the National Assembly budget, and has ignored the decisions of the first and second trials, “There is no reason not to open the data on the special activity expenses of the National Assembly.” Having insisted not to open the documents to public for no rational reason, the Secretariat deserves criticism. The National Assembly Secretariat should immediately disclose all data, including the details of the special activity expenses for three years from 2011 to 2013.
