On the Former President Roh's Demise, the Standpoint of The Civil Society Organization Network of Korea including PSPD is as follows;
Our citizens are greatly shocked and grieved with the news of the former president Roh's demise last weekend. We all, though somehow being in political conflict with him on several policies during his term of the office, honorably memorize him as the very President who devoted himself to breaking down the deep-seated authoritarianism and politics worsening regional conflict, and who tried hard for social democratization and political reforms as well as reconciliation and co-operation between South Korea and North Korea. We again express our deep sorrow both for the departed and the bereaved along with those who are lamenting his sudden demise.
We, as the member of the Korean society, should shoulder greater responsibility on the sudden demise of the former president Roh. We should seriously reflect on what frustrated him, how to be succeeded to the legacies of the age that he has left for us, and how to touch people's hurt feelings.
We should keep on carrying out radical reforms of the old backward state of politics and social institutions as a momentum on his unfortunate demise. Already, several people do not consider that former president Roh's demise is unrelated to the political revenge and suppression on the opponent party by the Lee Myungbak administration by mobilizing the Intelligence Service as well as the prosection-police force. There are also growing voices that the current oppressive and unilateral ways of government operation must be changed since they cause just disunion and conflict rather than harmony. The Lee Myungbak administration is better to listen to the voices of people including the civil society, demand full reform of its governance suppressing principles of democracy, fundamental rights of people and suffocating freedom of expression.
