[Event] Freedom of Assembly and Association in South Korea (14 June, Palais des Nations, Geneva)

National Implementation of Practical Recommendations

for the Management of Assemblies

On the case of Malaysia and South Korea

 

During the 31st Session of the UN Human Rights Council, the Special Rapporteurs presented their landmark report on the Practical Recommendations for The Management of Assemblies. The HRC also adopted a follow-up resolution o n the promotion and protection of human rights in the context of peaceful protest. (A/HRC/31/L.21).

This side event will provide substantive guidance on practical measures and best practices for the implementation of the recommendations and examine how the practical recommendations can be mobilized to support freedom of assembly in South Korea and Malaysia.

    Gayoon Baek (Coordinator, People’s Solidarity for Participatory Democracy, South Korea)
    Minjuwha Baek (Daughter of farmer Nam-gi Baek, who has been unconscious for more than 200 days since he was shot by the police’s water cannon during a peaceful demonstration on 14 November 2015 in South Korea.)
