Peaceful Tomorrows Statement on Deaths of Korean Civilians in Iraq

The members of September 11th Families for Peaceful Tomorrows send our sincere condolences to the families of the Korean civilians killed in iraq. We know the pain of losing a loved one to terrorism and reach out to you as members of the same humane family.

In the two years since the 9.11 attacks, we have seen how violence has led to more violence, pain has led to more pain, and fear has led to more fear. We believe that this cycle of violence must be broken by demanding alternatives to war.

The lesson of September 11th is that military action cannot protect us anymore. Instead we must work multilaterally with shared intelligence, diplomacy, and a respect for international law. We must hold on to our constitutional principles and support the United Nations. We must respond to the inhumanity of the September 11th attacks by becoming more human.

Peaceful Tomorrows supports PSPD and the many other social justice groups in South Korea seeking new answers to the new challenges of the 21st century. In America, 650 peace groups have organized under the banner “United for Peace”. We stand united with the people of South Korea as we grieve the unnecessary deaths of your civilians in Iraq. Today we have lost two members of our family. It is our responsibility to create a new family, a human family, that honors their deaths by creating a world free from the violence of terrorism and war.
