Imposing Sanctions and Military Response are not the solution

PSPD’s stance on NK satellite launch

Negotiations on Nuclear- Missile should be resumed immediately
Should be dealt calmly, with no Security Fear need developed

NK launched a rocket today amid international attention. PSPD(People’s Solidarity for Participatory Democracy) worries that NK’s launching augments the tensions on the Korean Peninsula, and provokes another detonation of arms race in Northeast Asia where military strength is already over concentrated.

South Korea and Japan insist that NK’s launching clearly violates U.N. resolution no.1718. They are likely to impose sanctions against North Korea. However, it is debatable whether NK violated the U.N. resolution if NK launched a satellite and, since each nation has the right to use space peacefully. Bluntly insisting that simply NK’s launching a satellite is threatening and needs to impose sanctions  will be hard to get international agreement nor persuasion. That kind of a sanctions only lead to military confliction and failure of 6-party talks.

Therefore, what is vital is addressing the concerns about NK’s launching and prudently approaching for a fundamental solution. Seeking a military solution such as joining PSI or MD system and developing needless security agitation like the Japanese government did are not desirable but can rather worsen the situation. In that regard, it is criticizable that South Korea and Japan ever-estimated NK’s launching rocket to create scary mood and use for domestic politics. Taking into account that NK’s launching satellite is essential means for military, political and diplomatic purpose, it very urgent to resume a nuclear-missile negotiation which is remained unanswered. Overreaction which can grow only military tensions is not a solution.
